THE BENEFITS OF CONE BEAM CT:
A BRIEF OVERVIEW:
A cone beam CT scan creates a 3-dimensional [3D] image of dental structures, such as your jaw, gums, teeth and nerves. This device is specific to dental patients, so it is smaller than a traditional CT scanner you may see in hospitals. This provides a superior view for both diagnosing dental conditions as well as planning necessary treatments or interventions, such as planning for a dental implant to replace your lost or missing tooth.
DO I NEED A CONE BEAM CT SCAN EVERYTIME?
Not everyone needs a cone beam CT scan. Dr. Mehr reserves taking Cone Beam CT on patients for the following reason/s:
1. Dental Implants
2. Complicated wisdom teeth removal
3. Complicated Root Canal Treatment
4. Diagnose Temporo Mandibular Joint Disorder (TMD),
5. Tumors in the Jaw
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR CONE BEAM CT?
Undergoing a cone beam CT scan does not require any special preparations beforehand. The scan maintains similar requirements as traditional Panoramic scans, which involve: Removing eyeglasses, pins in your hair, jewelry or hearing aids, earnings, and any facial piercings.
